As always, we are so impressed by kids’ creativity and imagination and the variety of ways they express themselves: in crayon, watercolor, pastel, colored pencil, clay, 3D sculptures, dioramas, murals, mosaics, and mixed media.
We will award winners in these age groups: 3-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-16. We have also added a few new categories: Best 3D, Most Unusual, Best Environmental, and this may expand depending on what we receive. Awards are given to 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place and honorable mention for each age group.
Contest theme:
Frogs, Amphibians and their Environment!
Your artwork can be about frogs, amphibians, rainforests, climate change, pollution, etc… and how you (or all of us) can help them.
Deadline for submissions is December 15, 2014 and the winners will be announced by January 15, 2015. The winners will be featured in a post and their artwork shared online and through social media.
We’re looking for drawings, paintings, sculpture, collage, or whatever format helps you express yourself.
To enter the contest, you join the kids art contest group on Flickr and just upload your entries. Teachers can upload student’s work and parents can upload their children’s work. If you are in a country where you cannot view Flickr, you can email your digital image to Frogs Are Green along with the child’s name, age and country, and we will add the image to the group. ****Note: You DO NOT need to have an email with Yahoo to enter! Just look on the Sign In/Sign Up on Flickr and you’ll see other email options!

MEET THE EXPERT JUDGES for 2014!
Laura Skolar
President of Jersey City Parks Coalition
Laura Skolar is a lifelong resident of Jersey City. Raised in the Jersey City Heights she graduated from Dickinson High School and then earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the School of Visual Arts with a major in graphic design. She was in her own hand silk screening business, Orphalese Designs, until life took her on a different course and she began a career in Real Estate. Working with people; concentrating in the community that she knew and loved was a truly gratifying experience. She continues in this profession today as a Real Estate Broker and owner of Century 21 Plaza Realty Corp.
In March 2003, Laura became one of the founding members of Pershing Field Garden Friends (PFGF), a community based organization whose mission is to contribute to the well being of their community through gardening. Although gardening was the means to beautifying Pershing Field, their mission is just as much about people as it is about plants. Engaging the community & local children has been a fundamental part of this process and has contributed to the safety and well being of their neighborhood. She currently serves as president of the organization.
The following year PFGF became one of the founding members of the Jersey City Parks Coalition which has become a significant park and open space advocacy organization. Today they are twenty four members strong, representing every ward in Jersey City. Laura was elected president in 2012 and has worked to forge a durable relationship between the community and the City. Her proudest accomplishments to date are the organization’s Memorandum of Understanding that was recently signed in 2013 with the City of Jersey City codifying the role of the Parks Coalition and the City regarding the development, use and maintenance of all City parks and public spaces and her role in the Coalition’s National Award Winning BIG DIG project.

You might think that life as a tadpole in Northwestern Pennsylvania’s Oil Creek is a messy, dismal affair. After all, it was the birthplace of the petroleum industry and in 1859 the promise of oil riches overshadowed the environment. But, by 1871, the boom was over, the speculators moved on, and nature reclaimed Oil Creek.
Christine Wiltanger grew up with and treasures this natural state, and one of her fondest memories is wading into Oil Creek with her toddler Sam and watching the crayfish, tadpoles, and fish scurry.
Preserving and protecting the natural beauty of this world is what drives Christine’s work with the Sierra Club’s New Jersey Clean Energy Campaign and Earth Hour Jersey City.

Oversight and maintenance of all external facing initiatives at the high standards set by the school’s performance in both the academic and real world participation for the past 20+ years. Miami Ad School’s agility makes it a unique entity in the education realm, developing and evolving its curriculum in real time with the input of market forces. Miami Ad School is a global network with 11 locations: New York, Minneapolis, San Francisco, Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Madrid, Hamburg, Berlin, Istanbul and Mumbai. The Director Brand Synergy insures that the core brand DNA of Miami Ad School is consistent in all of these locations.
Business Development + Project Management of Innovation Labs
The Innovation Labs are a collaboration between the Miami Ad School and existing brands, advertising agencies, brands in development/redevelopment, public relations firms, and/or other academic institutions. These projects are integrated into the curriculum of the school. This requires interface between the brand’s leadership teams, guest resident subject matter experts, instructors and the students
Oversight of the Heroes Program
Luminaries of the applied arts and thought leaders in a variety of industries work directly with the student body in a week-long visiting teaching/lecture program. Selection of participants and management of guest logistics.
Development and Maintenance of Industry Partnerships
Maintain current relationships with industry partners. Identify and initiate new relationships between Miami Ad School and brands. These partnerships offer the opportunity for the students to create business solutions for the brands.
Academic oversight: Mentorship of students, Production of classes, workshops and Boot camps for both post-grad students and professionals. Interface with school academic advisement and administration. Collaboration with MAS Administration, Directors, Instructors and Students for consistent global student award show domination.
Derek May
Founder, Creative Director, Drawing Dreams Foundation
North Carolina native Derek May is an illustrator and founder of Berkeley, California-based Drawing Dreams Foundation, a nonprofit that donates art supplies to children’s hospitals.
His art and fashion illustrations, which were commission by many Amercian designers, were published in leading national and international magazines and newspapers.
He was awarded Omega Watch Corporation’s Brilliant Achievement in American Design Award in 1990 for his fashion designs which were sold at Barneys, Bergdorf Goodman, and Linda Dresner in New York, Maxfield and Fred Segal in Los Angeles, Wilkes Bashford and Macys in San Francisco, and Ultimo in Chicago.

Greg Brickey is an artist, curator and musician who has worked for the Jersey City Office of Cultural Affairs for the past decade.
Greg Spalenka
Spalenka Visionary Art and Teacher, Artist As Brand
Greg Spalenka has illustrated for America’s most prominent publishers of books, magazines, and newspapers for 28 years.
As a concept designer he has worked on feature CG animated and live action films such as The Ant Bully, The Golden Compass, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. His limited edition books, prints, music, jewelry, and other art products are sold around the world.
Spalenka is also the founder of Artist As Brand® teaching workshops on art career sustainability at colleges, universities, and art institutions.

Emma Lam
Founder, A Small Green Space
Emma Lam is a garden designer and the owner of A Small Green Space, a full service urban landscape design, installation and maintenance firm based in Jersey City, NJ. From stage actress to horticulturalist, she brings a unique flair to gardening. Her work demonstrates that even tiny outdoor spaces can be transformed into functional and beautiful outdoor “living” rooms. She lives in Jersey City with her husband, daughter and playful hound dog.
Susan Newman – Host and Supervisor
Brand Visibility Designer and Founder, Frogs Are Green
Susan Newman, a brand visibility designer and environmentalist, is founder of FROGS ARE GREEN and spends her days showing how she feels about the Earth and spreading the awareness that we need to save frogs and amphibians.
A graduate of the School of Visual Arts, Susan spent her early career working as a graphic designer and art director for various NYC publishers, including Macmillan and Penguin. In 1994, she established her own design firm, Susan Newman Design, Inc.
Susan has donated her web visibility and graphic design work to various organizations including: Save The Frogs, Parc Mitsinjo, ACSAM (A Conservation Strategy for the Amphibians of Madagascar), Hoboken 9/11 Memorial Committee, Jubilee Center Hoboken for Children, The Central Avenue Special Improvement District, Actors Shakespeare Company, Hudson Theatre Ensemble, Pennsylvania Women’s Hall of Achievement and The Ring of Hope Campaign.
